Congratulations to Mr  Webster of our Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) Faculty who is to receive a NSW Quality Teaching Award at Government House on Friday 13th November 2009. This is in recognition of his excellent classroom practice and his contribution to the teaching and learning of young people in NSW secondary schools. KHHS Budding Master Chef

Congratulations to Catalina Gao who received the  Year 11 Commercial Cookery award by the Northern Beaches Business Enterprise Network, presented at Miramare Gardens in Terrey Hills.  This award is well recognized by employers who may subsequently be seeking trainees in the Hospitality industry.  Well done Catalina and to her teacher Ms Thompson.

James' Investor Success

Congratulations to James Moylan of Year 9 who has come first in NSW and second nationally in The ASX Schools Sharemarket Game which is open to students from years 7-12 in any Australian school.

Quite an achievement!

Congratulations also to his teacher, Mr Gardner, who encouraged his students to enter this competition as part of their studies in Commerce.

In 'Game On' players are given a hypothetical $50,000 to invest over a 10 week period to buy and sell shares in Australia’s biggest companies, using real time prices. They create their own “virtual” share portfolio and compete against the market, their friends and players from high schools across Australia.

For his efforts, James wins $1,000 for himself and a staggering $4,000 for KHHS.

James will attend the awards ceremony at the ASX in Sydney on 24 November to be presented with the awards and then be given lunch and a tour of the City dealing room with the winners from other states.

HSC Results for 2008

Our HSC students achieved more top band results than previous years. Of particular note were the large number of students who achieved top band results in Extension courses, which are the most demanding courses of study. We were again ranked as the top performing comprehensive coeducational public high school in mathematics in NSW for the HSC.

Special congratulations to Matthew Clarke and Quan (Richard) Gu who were in the All Rounders Merit list for achieving top band results in every course that they studied for the HSC. A special congratulations to Matthew, who has achieved a UAI of 99.85 and was ranked 12th in the state in Advanced English.

Richard Gu's UAI is 99.45 and Shelley Su's UAI is 99.15.

At this stage we are aware of 16 students with a UAI over 90 and more are anticipated once we can contact some students who are not in Sydney at this time. On Tuesday 10 th February 2009 we will be holding our HSC High Achievers Assembly commencing at 10am to celebrate these outstanding achievements. We are very proud of our HSC class of 2008. The achievement of personal best has been demonstrated across the full range of students within our school.

In academic performance our years 7 and 9 students undertook the new National Assessment for Literacy and Numeracy – the NAPLAN tests and we were 10% above average in both literacy and numeracy.
